3.1. Position Tracking - 12 vacant funded positions: Community Service Officer-1,
Corrections Deputy-5, Deputy Sheriff-3, Evidence Technician-1, and Support
Specialist-2
4. Sheriff's Office Update
4.1. Corrections - Lieutenant Schoeneberg stated that they have five vacant
corrections deputy positions and one community service officer (CSO) position
that is vacant. One CSO was hired and started on December 16, 2024. One
CD who will be starting on January 1, 2025. They lost one employee to
Thurston County Jail at the beginning of December. Another employee did not
successfully complete their probationary period.
It is hopeful that the recently approved collective bargaining agreement, with
an increase in pay for the correction deputy position, will attract more
applicants. The Sheriff's Office is also in discussion about offering an incentive
pay for lateral applicants.
4.2. Patrol - Chief Beyer stated there are two employees at the academy. They
have a total of four candidates which are either lateral or Criminal Justice
Training Commission certified in background. They have a deputy sheriff
entry level candidate on the eligibility list to draw from. All the deputy sheriff
employees on the road have completed their field training, so there are no
employees as Field Training Officer (FTO).
4.3. Support Staff - Chief Beyer reported that a conditional offer was given to a
support specialist applicant. A second applicant is close to completing the
background process. With these two applicants, the two vacant support
specialist positions may be filled in January, and they would be fully staffed.

Two assignment announcements went out within the sheriff's office: Civil
manager assignment (CMA) and Sheriff Enforcement Team (SET) Sergeant.
The CMA is a managerial assignment between the chief and the support staff.
It will become a permanent three-year rotation. The SET program is new
within the patrol division and will start the first of the year. It is like a sheriff's
response team. The program will focus on being proactive as to crimes and
crime levels, rather than reactive.
Sue Ickes, Chair, was thanked for her five years of service as she will have
completed her Civil Service Commission term on December 31, 2024.
5. Adjourn - The meeting adjourned at 5:20 p.m.
