Meeting Minutes
November 21, 2024
The regular meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Chairperson Sue Ickes.
Attendance: Sue Ickes, Chair; and Mark Nault, Commissioner
Others: Tami Beyer, and Becky Rogers.
1. Business: Public Hearing - Approval of revisions to the Civil Service Rule (CSR),
Chapters 1 - 12.
Chair Ickes opened the hearing and asked for comments.
Chief Beyer mentioned that CSR 8.12 lists Food Services Coordinator position which
has not been budgeted for many years and appears to be an oversight that it is still
listed. Also, the Financial Manager position is a non-represented and appointed
position. None of the other non-represented positions are included in this list.
Cmmrs. Nault/Ickes moved and seconded to approve the revisions to the Civil Service Rules, chapters I
-12 as distributed with the additional revision of removal of Food Services Coordinator and Financial
Manager in CSR 8.12. Motion carried unanimously.
2. Approval of Minutes: October 24, 2024, regular meeting minutes.
Cmmrs. Nault/Ickes moved and seconded to approve the October 24, 2024, regular meeting minutes.
Motion carried unanimously.
3. Open Forum for Citizen Input - No public comment.
4. Chief Examiner Update
4.1. Position Tracking - 11 vacant funded positions: Community Service Officer-2,
Corrections Deputy-4, Deputy Sheriff-3, and Support Specialist-2
4.2. Approval of Public Safety Testing Subscriber Agreement, effective 1/1/2025.
Cmmrs. Nault/Ickes moved and seconded to approve the Public Safety Testing Subscriber
Agreement, effective 11112025. Motion carried unanimously.
4.3. Approval of Deputy Sheriff Position Description.
Cmmrs. Ickes/Nault moved and seconded to approve the reformatted Deputy Sheriff Position
Description. Motion carried unanimously.
Sheriff's Office Update - Chief Beyer reported on the following divisions.
4.4. Corrections - They are working on interviews for Corrections Deputy positions
and Community Service Officer.
4.5. Patrol - The two most recent hires, Dotson and Drewry are scheduled for the
academy next month. Deputy Carney has given notice that he will be leaving

Mason County. Also, the Evidence Technician has given notice that she is
leaving. They are actively recruiting for that position.
4.6. Support Staff - They are getting a better level of experience and training.
There are two vacant positions. Three candidates are in background.
OURCU has given a donation to the Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office had vandalism to their Shelton office. They are working
with cleanup and replacement of windows and other blinds.
Chief Beyer referred to the non-representative class study and the Financial
Manager position. She questioned how the outcome will affect the class title
for Civil Service. It is being proposed to change to Finance Manager I, II, and
III.
Mason County Commissioners have approved the collective bargaining
agreement for the Corrections and Support Staff.
Eric Gough has applied to serve on the Civil Service Commission and the
Mason County Commissioners will be voting on his appointment at their
December 17 meeting.
