RE: Mason County Community Engagement Board Seeking Members
The Mason County Community Engagement Board was established to address truancy
issues by providing a supportive forum for families to identify and overcome barriers to
school attendance. Through collaboration with schools and community resources, the
Board aims to prevent formal court proceedings by resolving issues at the community
level.
Mason County Juvenile Court Services is seeking a pool of volunteers to fulfill the
mission of the Community Engagement Board. Meetings are scheduled as needed based
on referrals, typically held two to three times per week during the school year.
Volunteers can participate in as many Board meetings as they choose. Following each
meeting, an agreement outlining action steps is developed and filed with the Juvenile
Court to ensure accountability and progress tracking.
The Community Engagement Board functions as a listening and problem-solving forum
where families can discuss challenges hindering regular school attendance. Board
members work closely with students and their parents to identify barriers and develop
personalized action plans aimed at fostering improved school attendance.
The Board reviews school histories provided by schools and recommends tailored
community resources such as tutoring, family reconciliation services, and student support
programs. Board members undergo comprehensive training to ensure they are well-
equipped to recommend and facilitate access to these resources effectively.
