HomeMy WebLinkAboutBurn Ban Update - 2023/08/16MASON COUNTY FIRE MARSHAL Mason County Bldg. 8 615 W Alder St, Shelton, WA 98584 (360) 427-9670 Ext. 309 PRESS RELEASE August 16, 2023 In accordance with a policy of the Mason County Commissioners to use the National Fire Danger Rating System to regulate burn activities and be consistent with the Dept. of Natural Resources (DNR), effective 1201 AM on Thursday Aug 17 at 1201 AM, the fire danger level in Mason County will be elevated to the “Extreme” level. Under this condition, all fires pose a serious threat and can quickly develop into a high intensity blaze which makes suppression very difficult and dangerous to firefighters. Please note that because all open burning activities that use wood, charcoal, pellets, etc. are already restricted, there is no change to the burn restrictions currently in effect and propane grills, propane cooking appliances and propane fire pits will still be allowed. The public is encouraged to use this opportunity to exercise extra diligence to maintain fire safety in their home as well as any outdoor activities.
