PRESS RELEASE
August 16, 2023
In accordance with a policy of the Mason County Commissioners to use the
National Fire Danger Rating System to regulate burn activities and be consistent
with the Dept. of Natural Resources (DNR), effective 1201 AM on Thursday Aug 17
at 1201 AM, the fire danger level in Mason County will be elevated to the “Extreme”
level. Under this condition, all fires pose a serious threat and can quickly develop
into a high intensity blaze which makes suppression very difficult and dangerous to
firefighters. Please note that because all open burning activities that use wood,
charcoal, pellets, etc. are already restricted, there is no change to the burn
restrictions currently in effect and propane grills, propane cooking appliances and
propane fire pits will still be allowed. The public is encouraged to use this
opportunity to exercise extra diligence to maintain fire safety in their home as well
as any outdoor activities. Your cooperation in helping keep Mason County fire safe
this fire season is appreciated.
