OSCAR Cover Options. , y1 _. j UER = There may be a desire to cover the OSCAR with something additonat to the- - specified ASTM C-33 sand. The intent is not to have too much additional cover over the final C-33 sand layer that would prevent the sand from accessing oxygen from the atmosphere. Placing too much cover will inhibit plant root growth. Because the C-33 sand is sub-surface irrigated, grass and other ground cover will grow C 11 $ rapidly, forming a firm protective cover over the OSCAR. At the end of the first growing season the C-33 sand layer will be as firm as native soil to walk on. Options include: • Landscaping jute mat with grass seed or ground cover plantings • A thin layer of mineral soil low in organic content (<10% organics) • Thin layer of crushed or washed rock for wind erosion protection. • Thin layer of bark to wood chips. • Aggregates the size of rip-rap (5-6 inch diameter) can be "placed" on the OSCAR for protection from deer or elk traffic. These Larger sized aggregates must be placed, not dropped, on the OSCAR to prevent breakage of piping and other materials. • Wire mess can be installed over the sand to prevent erosion and allow for grass to grow. Ensure the final grade slopes away from these areas and water doesn't collect on or around them. Use swales, berms, catch basin and tight lines, curtain drains, etc. to divert all waters 18. Curtain drains can be no closer than 10' upgradient and 30' down gradient of the drainfield 19. Exposed restrictive layers, cuts, banks, etc. can be no closer than 50' downhill from the drainfield. 20. Install access risers on all tanks, valve box and ends of laterals. 21. Make sure septic tank risers are epoxied or caulked to cast in riser rings on tank. 22. Lids must form a water and gas tight seal with the access risers. 23. This system must be installed by a Mason County Certified installer. 24. Deviation from this design without prior approval from the designer and Mason County Health Department will make this design null and void. 25. This design was sized per Washington Administrative CodeWAC246-272A-0230. The operating capacity is based on 45 gallons per day per capita with two persons per bedroom. The minimum design flow per bedroom per day the operating capacity of ninety gallons multiplied by 1.33. This results in a minim sign flow of one hundred twenty gallons per day. This creates a surge factor of b nticipated flow is ninety gallons per bedroom per day. v sF h sJ CI (,N TZ L'fN$f G:i( GNER System Owner Responsibilities: 1.
