180 E Shetland Road, Shelton F5yµ.ZLI
County: Mason
Tax Parcel Number: 32122-50-00343
Purpose:
A site and soil evaluation was completed for the property located 180 F Shetland Road in Shelton on
June 18, 2026 by Environmental Design, LLC.The purpose of the site and soil evaluation is to determine
the suitability of an On-Site Wastewater system. In order to determine if a site is suitable a minimum of
three test pits were dug and evaluated for suitability. The site was evaluated to determine that the slope
and size were suitable and to determine if the proposed on-site wastewater would be able to meet
county and Washington State WAC 246-272A regulations.
Proposal:
The client is proposing a septic for an existing 1-bedroom single family residence. For a 2-bedroom
residence it is anticipated to produce 240 gallons per day based on 120 gallons per bedroom.
Site Description:
The site has a 0-3%slope in the proposed drainfield location. The parcel is about 0.32 acres in size and is
located in Section 21 of Township 21 North of 03 West.
Hydrology:
The site appears to be very well drained and there did not appear to be any areas of ponding in the
proposed on-site wastewater locations.
Water Source:
The water source is an existing city water connection. The water line will be located 10feet away from
the proposed On-Site Wastewater system to meet the requirements of WAC 246-272A.
Soil Description:
According to the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)the property soil is mapped as a
Alderwood Gravelly Sandy Loam. The test pit profiles did appear to be consistent with the mapped
series.
The NRCS describes the Alderwood Gravelly Sandy Loam as very dark brown gravelly sandy loam about 6
inches thick. The subsoil is dark brown gravelly sandy loam for the upper 9 inches and is dark brown very
gravelly sandy loam for the lower 15 inches. The following layer is a cemented hardpan at a depth of
about 30 inches. The hardpan is strongly compacted and crushes to very gravelly loamy sand. The depth
of the hardpan ranged from 20 to 40 inches.

Test Pit Description:
In order to complete a site and soil evaluation according to WAC 246-272A a minimum of 3 test pits
were evaluated and labeled in the field. Due to site constraints only 2 test pits were able to excavated
and evaluated on the site. The test pits are as described below:
Test Pit#1
0-38" Brown gravelly coarse sand
38+" Cemented
Restrictive at 38"due to cemented layer
Test Pit#2
0-46" Brown gravelly coarse sand
46+" Cemented
Restrictive at 46"due to cemented layer
Soil Loading Rate:
The type of soil appears to be a Type 1 with a soil loading rate of 1.0 according to WAC 246-272A,
System Requirements:
The site appears to be suitable for pressure bed system with NuWater secondary treatment in the
proposed drainfield location. The system requirements are concluded based on the s.Jitability of the soil,
the slope of the site and the site conditions.
Conclusion:
The site described as 180 E Shetland Road in Shelton appears to have a slope of 0-5%in the proposed
drainfield area. The site has a suitable soil depth of 38+" in the proposed drainfield location and is
suitable for a pressure bed system with a NuWater to serve the project.
