Vuecrest Dr. Union, WA 98592 January 15, 2026 Mason County Department of Health Services 415 N 6th St Shelton, WA 98584 RE: Mason County Garbage— New Shop/Office Building— Parcel#32005-33-90070 Dear Inspector: Mason County Garbage plans to build a Shop with Office building at their property located at 11 E Wilburs Way, Shelton, WA. There is an existing septic system tied to the building they have at 81 E Wilburs Way. The current septic system has a 1,200 gallon 2-compartmemt septic tank followed by a 10x45 gravity drainfield bed (450 sf). There are no septic records for this system on the property, but with legacy sizing of a 1.0 ap rate, it would be sized for a maximum of 450 gallons per day. Daily Design Flow for both buildings is conservatively calculated at 324 GPD maximum including current and future projected use (see flow calculations below). Usage of the proposed buildings is to be general office and meeting space. Waste strength is anticipated to be similar to residential usage with the main anticipated activities being employee restroom use, hand washing, lunch dish rinsing, etc. No chemicals or industrial products are to be put down the drains or into the septic system and waste strength is expected to be similar to residential. The new building will have a 1,200 gallon 2-compartment traffic rated concrete septic tank with a reinforced top, concrete risers, and steel lids to support vehicle traffic and parking. An on-demand pump will be placed in the second chamber to send the waste to the inlet of the existing septic tank. The transport pipe is to be 2" schedule 40 minimum and open up into 4" schedule 3034 to slow down the flow before entering the existing tank. The new building has restroom floor drains and a janitorial floor sink so an explosion proof pump and controls will be required if a lift pump is needed. Sizing Calculations: 10 current employees in existing building at 81 E Wilburs Way 8 future employees in new building at 11 E Wilburs Way 18 maximum employees x 13 gpd = 234 gpd Approx 30 drivers' bathroom use at shift change x 3 gpd = 90 gpd Total maximum anticipated usage= 234+ 90 = 324 gpd, less than the 450 GPD existing sizing This is a conservative sizing as employees work 5 days per week, with very little weekend usage.
