Dear Philip Cook:
I am writing in response to your request for a floodplain determination for the property of
interest [Randy Schrader] referenced above. By telephone you stated to me that you were
notified that the Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) Community-Panel showed the
subject parcel within the A-zone flood area. In making my determination, I relied on the
Mason County Geographic Information System images (from a May to June 2009 date)
for the area. My review of this site is limited to in office review with the FIRM map and
the GIS images; no field visit was conducted to verify the site.
The color aerial images show the overlaid parcel numbers and topographic contours, and
the nearby Haven Lake shoreline. The upland portion of the property shows the
residential structure at approximately 25 feet above the lake level. This ground level is
well above an elevation where possible flooding would occur; if water rose to this level,
property damage would occur regionally. At the 1:100 scale, the residential structure is
well outside of the mapped floodplain boundary, and 70 feet from the edge of the lake.
The residential structure is in an area mapped as the C-zone, where FEMA considers a
minimal flooding area.
