Re: BLD2000 — 00296, re-submittal
Dear Michael Barth,
As outlined in your Plan Review comments, I have made the following changes
to my plan for a building permit.
Item 1, Reduce the spacing of the rafters to 12" o.c. with DF#2 2x6's.
Item 2, Increase the number of posts supporting the 4x6 P.T. beams. The
maximum spacing of posts is to be reduced to 3.5' with the addition of 4x4
pressure treated posts.
Item 3, Added a sheet explaining the structural details of the storage shed.
The floor joists are 30 year ground contact pressure treated 2x6 spaced 16" o.c.
The footings in the front of the shed are concrete piers with a metal saddle
placed on top of eight inches of crushed 1.5" black rock. The concrete pier in the
center of the front sliding door is an all concrete pier with an "X" saddle
supporting the 7 foot 2x6's outlining the floor joist box.
The footings at the rear of the shed consists of 2 poured concrete post supports,
8 inches wide and 4 feet deep. In the center of the rear is another "X" saddle
concrete pier supporting the 2x6 floor joist box.
If there are further questions, please call me at (360) 275-7386.
Sincerely,
Fred Barrett

Re:BLD2000-00296
Dear applicant,
Your plan for the building permit referenced above has been
reviewed. This review letter contains only those comments related
to the building department review and does not reflect additional
needs of the other county departments. Please review the following
plan review comments . It is important that you then follow the
instructions for re-submittal located at the end of this letter.
Code Editions: 1997 Uniform Building Code, WAC 51-40
1997 Uniform Plumbing Code, WAC 51-46, 51-47
1997 Uniform Mechanical Code, WAC 51-42
PLAN REVIEW COMMENTS:
1, The 2x6 rafters (assumed DF#2) are overspanned at 14 . 5 feet .
This span with 2x6 rafters would require rafter spacing not to
exceed 12 " o.c. (even then it would be just borderline acceptable) .
2 , The 4x6 beam (assumed DF#2) is overspanned with 7 foot post
spacing. This span would require a minimum DF#2 4x8 beam, or the
post spacing must be reduced.
3 , The submitted plan did not contain the required information
detailing the enclosed storage room located at the end of the
carport. Please provide any necessary structural details (ex:
footing support, floor joists, pressure treated? , wall framing,
bracing, etc. )
The structure framing must be altered to be compliant with the
requirements of the 1997 UBC.
Note: An alternative to re-framing the rafters and posts
would be to add a beam (3 1/8 x 16 1/2 or 5 1/8 x 13 1/2 24F-V4
Glu-Lam) down the center of the carport spanning 28 feet, supported
at each end by 14 . 5 foot long 3 1/8 x 12 24F-V4 Glu-Lam Beams
properly supported by the posts to the footing.

Please make the required corrections and clarifications and
submit two sets of the plans showing the revisions. If only
affected pages are re-submitted, arrangements should be made to
remove voided sheets and re-insert new sheets into both building
department copies of the submitted plans. Please be sure to
include any additional changes that may have been made since the
plans were originally submitted. Please detail all corrections and
revisions in a transmittal letter, numbered in the same order as in
the plan review letter .to aid in a timely re-submittal review.
Prior to re-submittal, please call the Plans Examining
Department to make arrangements for a re-submittal. If a meeting
is needed, or if you have any questions regarding this review,
please contact me at (360) 427-9670 extension 551 .
The issuance or granting of a building permit or approval of
plans, specifications and computations shall not be construed to be
a permit for, or an approval of, any violation of any of the
provisions of this code, or of any other ordinances of this
jurisdiction, per UBC section 106.4 .3 .
Re-submittals are normally reviewed within five working days of the
receipt of proper and complete revisions in our office.
