Subject: Addition to Belfair Elementary School
Septic Tank Drainfield Expansion
Gentlemen:
On November 17 , 1988 , two test pits were made in potential
drainfield locations at Belfair Elementary School . The test
pits were made in conjunction with other subsurface exploration
at the High School , by Jim Pelland Construction. Locations of
the pits are indicated on the attached sketch.
Logs of the test pits are also attached . Soil descriptions on
the logs are on a visual basis and are in accordance with the
Unified Soil Classification System. Moisture and density
conditions as indicated are qualitative only, with moisture
conditions expressed on a dry-moist-wet basis.
Grain-size tests were run on a soil sample from each test pit.
These test results are shown on the attached test data sheets.
Moisture content test results are also shown. Testing was done
in my lab in Tacoma.
Material encountered in both test pits appears to be a
relatively soft Vashon Glacial Till. While the soil gradations
in bcth pits are very similar, the material south of the
playshed seems to be more favorable because it is in a looser
condition.
