The purpose of the site visit was to evaluate two complaints received by the Mason County Department of Community Development. The complaints related to alleged commercial kennel activity, improper feces storage and car repair operations. While on site, I observed six resident dogs and one"rescue"dog that will be placed with a new owner. I observed six kennels, and you informed me that the dogs are kept for personal purposes. You advised that you do not operate a commercial kennel or breeding facility. I observed that the feces are collected in covered buckets a substantial distance away from the shoreline of Lake Christine. The buffer area associated with the area is generally vegetated with native species and I observed no evidence of the alleged activities. You also provided information regarding your work, associated with the American Canine Foundation, to promote responsible canine ownership. I appreciated the opportunity to hear about your work,and found no evidence of commercial activity. This portion of the complaint is not valid. The complaint regarding the car repair business is also not valid. I observed less than 10 vehicles on site, and observed no activities that are contrary to County regulations. As we discussed, recent regulations approved by the Mason County Commissioners limit the number of vehicles allowed per Rural Residential lot to ten. I anticipate that you will make every effort to limit activities that may not be compatible with the residential community in which you reside. Again, thank you for your time. At this time, the case is closed and no further action will be taken. The activities in question include hosing off the feces of animals into Lake Christine, and running a car repair/painting business and dog kennel on the residential parcel.
