This pour was for the"Submerged Inlet/Outlet" structure shown on Drawing S1.The discrepancy noted was on the air entrainment, which was measured as 3%against the 6%which was specified. No other field test indicated any other problems with the concrete being supplied. I was contacted by Drew Norton of Parametrix when this test result was taken and gave the OK to continue the pour.The lower air content is not a concern to me as the primary purpose for the entrained air is to increase durability of the concrete due to freezing in exposed locations such as pavements.This particular concrete was for a structure that will be protected under the pond liner and not exposed to weather. Per American Concrete Institute and Portland Cement Association publications, the main functions of air entrainment are durability and to make the concrete more workable during placement. Addition of air content actually reduces concrete strength, and this is compensated in the mix design by adding cement content.Thus, I have no concern for the air content being detrimental to the strength of the concrete, unless shown as deficient due to other reasons in the up-coming cylinder tests. Purpose and Scope The purpose of our services,as requested by Seter,was to perform a concrete cylinder pickup.Five concrete compressive strength test cylinders had been previously cast by Bill Ugolini on August 16,2018. Findings All five cylinders were in-place and did not appear to have been tampered with or damaged. Conclusion The five cylinders were transported to our Poulsbo Lab for standard curing and future compressive strength testing. Purpose and Scope Krazan I on site for reinforcing steel inspection,concrete sampling,and continuous inspection of concrete placement. I met with Drew for a review of the contract documents and mix design. Findings Areas of pour: Submerged inlet/outlet assembly. Documents referenced: S 1,20 of 25 by Parametrix. Concrete placed by excavator bucket and consolidated by vibration. One sample was taken and tested for slump, temperature,air content,and cast 1 set of 5 each 4"X8"test cylinders for compressive testing. Observed placing of 3 yards of mix#025506 supplied by Miles Concrete. Conclusion Concrete placement per contract documents and ACI. Reinforcing steel per contract documents and ICC.
