RE: Permit Requirements
Dear Susan,
As we discussed this morning, the deck which you have
constructed or improved upon does require a building permit . It
is my understanding that you will be applying for the after the
fact permit prior to September 18 , 1999 . Enclosed are the
necessary permit applications and example detail drawing of what
we will need for you to submit with your application.
The woodshed addition will need to meet the exemption
requirements of :
One story, detached structure not exceeding a wall
height of 10 ' and roof area of 120 square foot maximum. The
entire structure, existing and proposed, needs to fit into
this criteria to be considered exempt . I have enclosed an
exemption sheet for your review. If you find that with the
addition, the entire structure will exceed the 120 sf roof
area limitation, it will need to be permitted.
Also mentioned during our conversation was the issue of
constructing steps . This office would not require a permit for
the step construction if dug into grade as you stated. A permit
would be required for a deck or as you referred to it, as a
landing between the two runs of steps, if it exceeds the deck
limitations as defined on the enclosed exemption list .
As you can see on the exemption list, even if a project is
exempt from the Building Permit, it still must meet the Dept . of
Community Development regulations . Contact with that department
should be made to insure your proposal will comply.

Dear Ms. Crowell,
It has come to my attention that you have not applied for an
after the fact building permit for the repairs done at N.E. 6680
Elrendahl . A stop work order was posted on 7/28/99 . You had a
conversation with Tami Griffey on 10/22/99 at which time you where
informed what was need. To date we have not received the after the
fact building permit nor have we had any contact with you. To bring
your site into compliance, and avoid further actions or penalties
you must within 10 days from the receipt of this letter:
1 . Apply for an after the fact building permit .
For further information or assistance regarding this letter,
our authority to require compliance, or to notify me of your intent
to comply as required, please contact me at (360) 427-9670 ext . 510
between the hours of 7 : 00am. - 4 : 00pm. Monday - Friday.
