WHEREAS, an undue burden would be placed on the Mason County

tenance because of increased bussing miles; and
WHEREAS, an unnecessary hazard will be placed on the students
being transported by the additional miles traveled during the
winter months® and
WHEREAS, the Mary M. Knight School Board has adopted
Resolution #k190 which states that the closure or consolidation of
the Mary M. Knight School District is not in the best interest of
the students in the district; and
WHEREAS, some students presently travel one and one-half
hours from Girsdale to school and to consolidate would be an
additional 40-minute bus ride; and
WHEREAS, Mary M. Knight School District has been in existence
since 1926 and provides a good stable program including physical,
scholastic, social and emotional areas; and
WHEREAS, the students are getting a good education and it is
questionable that the same education could be provided for less
money through consolidation; and
WHEREAS, community involvement is always higher in a small
school district; and
WHEREAS, quantity of classes offered to the students should
not be the sole guideline, but should also include the quality of
the classes; and
WHEREAS, small schools offer students a chance to develop
leadership skills; and
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Mason County
Commissioners that the proposed closure and/or consolidation of the
Mary M. Knight School District is not a viable approach to education
in this area and that the Mary M. Knight School District should be
allowed to operate as it has since 1926 as a remote and necessary
school district.
