The following is a summary of the wetlands reconnaissance performed on the above
referenced property. Review was limited to the suspected wetland that occurs nearest to
the existing driveway. Technical data is attached-
Methods
Field Review
A field review of the above referenced properties was performed on January 23, 2002.
The suspected wetland occurred within both properties.
A larger wetland was observed, however, boundary delineation and formal determination
was not completed because the wetland is likely jurisdictional and the landowners will
manage it according to Mason County Resource Ordinance 17.01.070.
Wetland Delineation
Wetland delineation followed a routine methodology batted upon the Washington State
Wetland Identification and Delineation Manual (1997) requiring positive indicators for
wetland soil, hydrology, and plants.
Wetland hydrology was determined through observation of.field indicators and
conditions dug in pits within the study area.
Presence of hydrie soil was determined by soil conditions in several pits dug around
suspected wetlands. Soil inspection included comparison with the Munsell Color Charts
(1992). General soil characteristics were derived from information contained within the
Soil Survey of Mason County, Washington. (1960).
Occurrence of wetland vegetation was determined through species identification,
estimation of dominance and then assignment of wetland indicator status_ Indicator
status was assigned based on the National list of Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands
(1996).
Wetland Category Rating
The Washington State Wetlands Rating System for Western Washington (1993) was used
to establish a Category Rating for the wetland.

RESULTS
Category III Wetland
An isolated category ITT wetland was identified at the site. Positive indicators of soil,
hydrology, and vegetation were observed within the flagged wetland. Several landscape
characteristics indicate that the site is and has been capable of containing water long
enough during the growing season to support wetland conditions. The upper 9 inches of
histosol soil indicate condition-,of saturation long enough during the growing season to
develop anaerobic conditions. This qualifies is a hydric soil. Hydrophytic vegetation
was also observed throughout the wetland zone. All plants identified within the zone
were either facultative or obligate wetland plants. The diversity of vegetation observed
throughout the wetland qualify it as a category ITT according to The Washington State
Wetlands Rating System for Western Washington (1993),
Below Minimum,luristictional Size
The identified wetland was flagged in the field and has a length of 64 feet and a mean
width of less than 30 feet in size. A single island of non wetland occurs within this zone
which subtracts roughly 50 square feet of wetland surface area from this estimate. This
wetland has hydraulic connectivity to a small wetland channel via a culvert passing under
the existing driveway. This channel ends 52 feet from the road and has a mean width of
7 feet. The overall surface area estimate for the wetland and 'associated wetland channel
totals less than 2230 square feet. Category III wetlands less than 2,500 square feet are
not regulated by Mason County according to chapter 17.01.070 of the Mason County
Resource Ordinance. Because of the nonregulatory status of this wetland, no further
information is required at this time.
