Mason County Superior Court and the Board of County Commissioners agree to the terms as prescribed
below for extra-help juvenile detention officers.
WHEREAS, RCW 36.16.070 states... The Board shall fix the compensation of all employees;
WHEREAS, there is a significant challenge in juvenile detention due to a shortage of staff. Many of the
extra-help staff are reluctant to work on holidays because they are not compensated beyond straight
time.;
WHEREAS, it has been determined by the Mason County Board of County Commissioners, the remedy
is compensating extra-help juvenile detention officers at a rate of one and one-half (1 Y2) hours for all
work performed on any holiday recognized in the Mason County Personnel Policy, Chapter 7.11;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Mason County Board of County Commissioners hereby
approve the following:
1. All work performed by an extra help juvenile detention officer on a holiday recognized in the
Mason County Personnel Policy Chapter 7.11 shall be compensated at a rate of one and one-half
(1 %) hours to be effective upon signing and shall be subject to review one (1) year from the
Effective Date.
2. The terms of this MOU shall be subject to review one (1) year from the Effective Date. If the
parties do not mutually agree in writing to extend, amend or renew the MOU following the review,
the MOU shall automatically terminate on the one-year anniversary of the Effective Date.
