I also have no experience regarding pump out fees. I would suggest you call marinas in the Puget Sound area to find out how they handle this issue. The master program is silent about pump out fees but there may be some requirement if paid for with grant funds. Regarding the barge removal, I am unaware of any other permit that Ecology would require. We were happy to see that it did not include an expansion of the Marina its self. Any expansion would have an impact on public health and would change the size of the seasonal(May-end of Nov.)closure zone around the Marina currently,and close a portion of approved commercial shellfish growing area. Our office is curious about the change in use as it relates to the on-site septic system(OSS). Does Mason County Env. Health review this proposal as well? Although their proposed use of the Nitrogen reducing technology is admirable, the change in waste strength (residential to high strength)due to the RV's,which use all kind of nasty chemicals not suitable for on-site systems, could cause the system to fail. Many new OSSs that have RV waste inputs have failed almost immediately due to high strength waste. Was the previous OSS sized for the marina wastewater and the mobile? 6-12 employees, two showers, two sinks,and 2 RV hook-ups is different than one mobile home. We landscape the area above the existing drain field to make certain it is kept in good condition. 2. We could put a grinder pump at the 750 gallon tank and pump the contents from the two restrooms into the 1,200 tank and drain field. The flow from the existing restrooms would be relatively minimal,which could easily be handled by the existing septic system. Remember that the existing system was designed for a 3-bedroom home. We are also having the design done for a sewer pump-out on the dock. We are looking at the sizing for a holding tank for the sewer pump out. In speaking with Pleasant Harbor Marina,their sewer pump out is a drain field. During a busy weekend,they pump no more than 3 boat or less than 100 gallons a day,since the volume per boat is 10 to 30 gallons each. With the excess capacity of the 1,200 gallon tank,we would like you to consider allowing us to use this existing septic tank and drain field to be used for the two restrooms and for the sewer pump out on the dock.
