The hardware store would go in the area between the grocery store and the gas station (area of lot 07002). This would necessitate removal of the gas station's existing sewage tanks and disposal system. We are proposing that the wastewater from the new combined gas station and hardware store be sent into the existing grocery store sewage treatment system. The following analysis will show that there is adequate capacity in the grocery store system for this small addition. Page 2 of 6 Existing Grocery Store System: The existing septic system was installed in 2007/8 for the new+/- 10,000sgft grocery store which includes a deli, butcher shop, and bakery. Size/Capacity The existing system consists of a series of collection and settling tanks that time dose a recirculating gravel filter where aerobic treatment occurs before effluent moves to the fund pump tank where it is dosed into the drainfield for final treatment and disposal. The system was designed to handle an influent BOD5 of roughly 800mg/L at a maximum of 1,500 gallons per day. Existing Flow and Waste-strength Analysis: Flow—Water records show that the grocery store used 178,966 gallons of water last year. This breaks down to roughly 488 gallons per day which is about 1/3 of designed capacity. This means that there is additional capacity in the system. Strength—The system continues to meet and/or exceed all operational expectations. Current sampling results show that the waste strength is being reduced from a BOD of 500-800mg/L down to about 26mg/L. This shows the efficacy of the gravel filter in reducing waste strength to well below residential strength before it is sent to the drainfreld for final disposal. Given this data,it is safe to say that current practices are maintaining waste strength coming from the building well below initial projections. On top of that, the system is performing a high-quality job on what is being produced. This is evidence that there is additional capacity in the system for the addition of the gas station and proposed hardware store. Page 3 of 6 Proposed Gas Station and Hardware Store Addition- Flow and Waste-strength Analysis: Gas station water records show that the daily flow there is only about 80gpd. Projected waste strength for gas station is a BOD of 300 or lower. The hardware store is projected to be an addition to the gas station building(creating a single, larger space). Dry goods stores such as this generate a minimal amount of increased water use. The owner estimates that existing gas station employees will be sufficient for hardware store, so no new employees will be added. The restrooms are external porta-potty's at that location. Therefore, the only extra water from the hardware store would come from cleaning and maintaining additional space. I project this to be no more than 50gpd(overestimate)with a BOD of 300mg/L or less. So,the gas station and hardware store combination will add roughly 130 gpd of BOD 300mg/L to the grocery store system if combined. Combined Grocery,Gas and Hardware Breakdown: Grocery Gas Station Hardware Current/Estimated Flow 488gpd 80gpd 50gpd Proiected Combined Flow 618sod - - Current Capacity 1500gpd - - It is our estimation that the system has ample capacity to meet the addition of this proposed use while continuing to maintain a high level of treatment and disposal. 1 i i I i Page 4 of 6 OPERATION& MAINTENANCE: Inspections This system must be inspected annually at a minimum. Continued owner vigilance coupled with ongoing professional inspections and maintenance will ensure proper system performance and arrest any potential problems before they occur. Waste Strength Sampling We strongly advise waste strength sampling(Temp,pH, DO,BOD5,TSS,FOG)be conducted annually. If parameters projected in this assessment are ever exceeded, analysis should be conducted to determine cause so that any potential issues can be taken care of before they become problems. r• J O .TAafMSYRnT • LCENSED DESIGNILR EXPIRES: W071 Toby Syrett On-Site Licensed Wastewater Treatment System Designer# 5100299 Page 5 of 6 AQUATEST INCORPORATED DATE:SMSh4 CUSTOMER 6LAr Cmalnctbn APn:Don W ooM roll 2921 East PMDpe I LooD Rd. swtda.Waehrow gNsI COilECi10N DATE: 0124114 RECEIVED TO LAD: 04/ 14 SAMPLE ID: Htodepotl Dnnary P Tank AW1LYso flE5Uli5 SOD,(mgL) 26 5 TSS(mg&) 14.0 06G(.DfL) 4.3 PH 6.59 Temp 11S DO(mgQ 2.1 PREPARED WY. Good Morning Rhonda, I have attached a file that Toby had written up a few years back that was submitted when the Ace Hardware store was built in hoodsport. In the document you will see that he has gone into detail about the flow and waste strengths of the Hoodsport IGA,Ace,and Gas Station and how the current system installed is capable of handling all three of the buildings. Let me know if this document will suffice or if you have any other questions. Best, Taylor Toney, Owner B-Line Construction, Inc.
