LOCATION: 1085 Pickering Road, dba Lady of the Lake [store] 426-8632.
DATE: 11 September 2007, Tuesday.
1340 hours,
Arrived on scene. The store was closed. Normal store schedule is 1030-1700,
Friday through Monday.
Structure is approximately 55'x35'. Covered porch in front and open porch in
the rear. There are outside tv surveillance cameras front and back [posted].
Will return on Friday to inspect building.
FIRE INSPECTION REPORT
MASON COUNTY FIRE MARSHALS OFFICE

LOCATION: 1085 East Pickering Road,
DBA, Lady of the Lake, phone 426-8632, 427-0513.
DATE: 14 September 2007
1102 hours,
During a routine fire inspection the following items were found:
• There were clothes and other merchandise on the front porch.
• The front door was cluttered with clothes on hangers hanging on the
molding.
• The owner met me at the front door and asked, "what do you
want?" I explained that I was there to make a fire safety
inspection. She wanted to know if she was being singled out. How
often were these inspections scheduled? Under what authority was I
there? What was I looking for? Is she the only one being
inspected? "What will be the outcome of this inspection?" Her tone
was critical, defensive, and demanding.
• Once inside the store, the narrow isles [1.5' to 2' wide] made
movement difficult. I had trouble making my way to the rear of the
store without bumping into or tripping over things. I told her
because she had so much merchandise (antique furniture,dishes,
clothes, lamps, etc), she needed a building at least twice as large as
this one.
• I went through a cluttered doorway into the back room. It also was
over-full with merchandise. I finally made it to the back door of the
building.
• On the open back porch was a canopy cluttered with clothes hanging
on the support rods. The narrow passage through the canopy made
an "S" turn to the left before exiting off of the porch.
• I asked, "where is your fire extinguisher?" She didn't say anything.
• She said that she was in the process of buying the building.
Before leaving I told her that she needed to make more space to
provide wider isles ways and to hang fire extinguishers.
She asked if I was keeping track of the time that I was in the building.
I said, "that it was 1126 and I was leaving, have a nice day."
