HomeMy WebLinkAboutWetland Delineation Report - PLN General - 6/1/2004 - 1 LESSARD PROPERTY WETLAND DELINEATION REPORT Prepared for: Keith Lessard 2803 NE 187t'Ave Vancouver,WA 98682 SOUND NATIVE PLANTS PO BOX 7505 OLYMPIA, WA 98507 (360) 352-4122 Prepared by: Ben Alexander June 1,2004 Lessard Property Wetland Delineation Report Site Location: 2931 Mason Lake Drive East Mason County, Washington Parcel # 222335200080 June 1, 2004 Brent Haddaway of Sound Native Plants visited the site on May 28, 2004 to determine the extent, boundary and rating of wetlands on the Lessard property on Mason Lake. The site, including the wetland buffer and approximately 15%of the wetland area, had been cleared of vegetation using heavy machinery. The wetland was delineated using the criteria outlined in the 1987 US Army Corps of Engineers Wetlands Delineation Manual and the 1997 Washington Department of Ecology Manual for Identifying_and Delineating Wetlands, and rated using the Washington State Wetland Rating System for Western Washington (Washington State Department of Ecology, 1993). The wetland boundary determination was based on vegetation on-site and on adjacent properties, and the presence of hydric soil indicators. Indicators of wetland hydrology were assumed based on the presence of the indicators of the other two parameters. The wetland boundary was marked using sequentially numbered flagging(see sketch map, attached). The wetland is situated on the shore of Mason Lake, and is therefore a Lacustrine fringe wetland under the hydrogeomorphic (HGM)wetland classification system. Both adjacent lots have developed shorelines. The wetland is vegetated by Douglas spirea (Spiraea douglasii), slough sedge (Carex obnupta), soft rush (Juncus ffusus), creeping buttercup (Ranunculus repens), Scouler's willow (Salix scouleriana), and an unidentified bulrush (Scirpus sp.). Soils observed within the wetland were sand/loamy sand with high organic matter content(recorded matrix color 10 YR 2/1). The examined soil profile was moist, but not saturated. Functions provided by this wetland include shoreline stabilization, toxicant and nutrient removal, and habitat for amphibians, aquatic invertebrates, and fish. The wetland was rated as a Category 3 wetland using the Wetland Rating System for Western Washington. The wetland is approximately 1,800 square feet in size, which is too small to be regulated by Mason County under the resource Ordinance(Mason County Resource Ordinance Section 17.01.070).
