Brown & say Engineering & Consulting EI�' D JAN 1 q Date: 01/10/10 .M C C D - PLANNING To: Grace Miller Mason County Dept. of Community Development PO Box 279 Shelton, WA 98584 Re: Mason County PUD #1, Review of plans for Lilliwaup area 12.5kV power line undergrounding Dear Ms. Miller, The fo,lowing is a request to please review the enclosed plans and specifications regarding a proposed replacement of an existing 1400 ft. section of Mason County PUD #1's 12.5kV overhead power distribution line with underground cables along Highway, 101, near Lilliwaup, WA. The existing highway and proposed installation is within 200 ft. of the shoreline, hence we are concerned about the possible.need for a shoreline condition use permit. The current overhead line'is located on an unstable stable that is frequently damaged by trees. It is also located near a heavily saturated run-off ditch, which empties into Lilliwaup bay via several culverts oriented south, perpendicular to the highway. The new installation will eliminate the overhead line, removing obstacles away from motorists and Dept. of Transportation maintenance vehicles, significantly improving reliability of power service, and cause no significant impact to the environment or shoreline with the new installation. We are currently coordinating franchise amendments with the Dept. of Transportation for revised use of their right of way. We appreciate.your consideration and review of this project! With your help, we can significantly improve the reliability of the PUD's power service to several hundred customers in the area and help restore the scenic quality of this stretch of coastline.
