2. The slab will be 6"larger than the CMU base of the chimney.
3. The rebar in the CMU or cinder block above the footing and up to the main floor of
the house will have#5 rebar 2' on 2'.
4. Combustible air will flow in to the side of the CMU from out side the house. It will
flow through the basement segment of the chimney and into the firebox of the main

Basement
1. A 6"concrete slab will be flush with the basement finished floor. The concrete slab
will have#5 rebar 1' on 1'.
2. All floor joists that run through the area of the chimney will be crippled with equal or
greater size joists (2"x 12"in the basement) and will be attached utilizing galvanized
hangars.
3. All crippled joists, headers, and combustible materials will stand off from the
chimney a minimum of 2 ".
4. As the basement portion of the chimney will have CMU on three sides only a 5"x 5"
angle iron will be installed for support above the basement ceiling. The angle iron
will have an overlap of 6"on each end on the CMU.
5. An existing wood stove will be connected to the 10"x 10"Flue. There will be a
cleanout at the base of the flue.
6. A Propane furnace will be installed on the concrete slab in the basement. This
furnace will fit into the open side of the basement chimney.
7. Non combustible air will flow in and out of the chimney, from and to the house, into
and out of the heatalator unit.
Main Floor
1. A 6"concrete slab will be set 3"below the main floor finished floor. The slab will
have#5 rebar 1' on 1'. The slab will have a corrugated metal base. The front edge of
the slab will extend out into the living room 18".
2. All floor joists that run through the area of the chimney will be crippled with equal or
greater strength joists and will be attached utilizing galvanized hangars.
3. All crippled joists, headers, and combustible materials will stand off from the
chimney a minimum of 2 ".
4. The CMU will be faced on three sides by brick. Wall ties used to hold the facing will
be 18 gauge and will be spaced according to code.
5. The firebox will contain a Heatform Model A-37A heatalator unit. (See attached)
6. A 5"x 5"angle iron will be installed above the firebox opening for support. The
angle iron will rest on a minimum of 6"at each end on the CMU (not shown in
drawings). CMU will surround the Heatform (not shown in drawings).
r
7. A 12"x 6"wood beam will extend the length of the face of the chimney to act as a
mantle. As the mantle will extend out 5"from the facing of the chimney, the mantle
will be 20" above the top of the fireplace opening.
8. 3 "Firebrick will line the floor of the firebox and extend out to the edge of the
concrete slab in front of the firebox (18"). The top of the 3"firebrick will be flush
with the main floor finished floor.
Attic
1. The chimney will be reduced in width and depth to 24"by 48 " in the attic space.
This dimension change will take place 6 " above or below the ceiling and the roof.
2. All ceiling joists that run through the area of the chimney will be crippled with equal
or greater strength joists and will be attached utilizing galvanized hangars.
3. All crippled joists, headers, and combustible materials will stand off from the
