This report outlines the feasibility of using the existing Johnson home at 720 NE Roessel Rd for
your new field office.Our findings are that the conversion is feasible and will have no adverse
effect on the existing on-site wastewater system.
Existing System:
Existing system is for a 4-bedroom residence(see attached approved 1981 permit).The system
consists of a 1150 gallon septic tank,followed by an alternating gravity disposal mm The
disposal area consists of a d-box with switching mechanism feeding two separate drainfields.
Each drainfield consists of 3 laterals(3' x 90' each)for a total of 810sgft per drainfeld.The field
/ rotation in the past has ranged from 6—18 months.
` Proposed Changes:
The proposed change is to convert the 4-bedroom residence into a field office for staff use.This
will consist of use of existing rooms for offices,work areas and a small water lab.Them will also
be a public access bathroom although non-staff we will be minimal.
Hydraulic Flow Justification:
The existing system's hydraulic capacity is 480 gallons per day(4 bedroom residential system).
Proposed use will be as follows:

Waste Strong&Justification:
Waste strength is anticipated to be slightly higher than residential due to being primarily
blackwater with little to no dilution from typical residential activities of bathing and laundry.
Waste strength for the proposed use is expected to be around 200mg/L BODS/day.Residential
strength is generally around 150mg/L.
The biological loading capacity of the existing system is:
480gpd x 150mg/LBOD5 x 0.00000834 = 0.601bsBOD51day
The average biological loading capacity of the proposed new facility is:
235gpd x 200mgEBOD5 x 0.00000834 = 0.3916s BOD5/day
The max biological loading capacity of the proposed new facility is:
340gpd x 200mg/L BODS x 0.00000834 = 0.571hsBOD5/day
Since system capacity is higher than the new anticipated loading,the system should be able to
handle the proposed change.
Condittons:
As a condition of this change of use:
1. The existing septic tank should be pumped,cleaned and inspected.
2. Existing distribution box should be cleaned and inspected. ,
3. A water meter should be installed on the line running into the office building. This will
allow actual flows to be tracked over time to determine potential impacts on the system.
4. On-going monitoring and maintenance-Tye septic tank and dcainfield should be visually
checked once a year for proper functioning.he septic tank should be pumped as often as
necessary(rate of solids buildup varies with use).The drainfield should be alternated
annually when system check is conducted
5. Waste strength sampling-The waste strength should be sampled one year after
commencing operations to ensure that projections laid out in this document we within
range. If the waste strength is higher than predicted,it will need to be addressed at that
time.

Commercial systems routinely run the risk of high-waste strength.Main contributors are waste
concentration,food preparation and chemical and cleaner use.Manufacduing processes can also
be a factor.This facility won't have any food preparation or manufacturing Processes,so the use
of cleaners mustbe watched.Use of caustic cleaning agents or even over-use of benign products
can upset the biological process of the system causing high-waste strength related failure.
Please read the enclosed Septic System User's Manual for more information on how best to use
the system and understand it's components to extend its life and proper function.If applicable,
please educate staff regarding Proper use of the septic system.

Based on the information provided by Tod,3.5 FPE's and the 30,000 visitors per year,the average daily
volume of sewage generated is based the EPA Onsite Wastewater Treatment System Manual flow rate
information. The daily flow rate is .
3.5 employees X 16 gal per employee per day X 5 days per week X 52 weeks =14,560 gal per year
plus
30,000 visitors per year X s gallon per visitor =240,000 gallons per year
Total annual average flow= 14,560 gal per year+240,000 gal per year =254,560 gal per year
Daily average flow=254,560 gal per year 1365 days per year = 697 gallons per day
