Dear Mr. Yando:
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the determination of
nonsignificance for the construction of a 50 foot long riprap
bulkhead along the Tahuya River, as proposed by patrick Berry
(#94-141) . We reviewed the environmental checklist and have the
following comments.
The project proponent should be encouraged to seek alternatives
to hardening the bank of the river. Bioengineering techniques
provide better stabilization over the long term than bulkheads,
which require constant rebuilding. We suggest the proponent seek 14
engineering assistance in this matter.
If you have any questions, please call Mr. Bill Young with our
Water Quality Program at (206) 407-6399.
Sincerely,
