On Wednesday February 8, 2012, upon your request, I made a site inspection of the camping
use areas at Camp Hahobas to the west and south of Dewatto Rd. (Parcel Nos. 32204-20-60000
and 32205-10-60000). The quick inspection with you and David Rudie (ranger) was made to
examine trees near the shoreline of the lakes and camp areas on these properties. I noted the
location of the forty small to medium trees in close proximity of campsite improvements
(shelter, cooking, and toilet structures) or in damaged condition through the areas that we
examined. I understand the scope of the height and lean of these trees, the careful cutting and
removal of the noted trees close to improvements that concerns you, the planned trimming of
nearby shrub species, and the planned replanting of many native tree species for replacement
of those removed.
You may proceed with your proposed danger tree removal on these parcels per Mason County
Resource Ordinance standards, and the needed care from damage to existing improvements
and adjacent upland vegetation. You may contact me for further information.
