Subject: Tree#408 leaning tree, nuisance tree
Hi Grace, I recently faxed the white form back to you, that you requested I fill out.Since our conversation on the phone after we had
just arrived back to our EDMONDS home,we came back to Harstene. Below are the photos of our deck again covered in pitch. We
spoke to a friend who is an Arborist in EDMONDS,who looked at pictures we had taken. He said it sounds like it is a nuisance tree.
We plan to talk with the arborist here at the point ASAP. But meanwhile we wanted to bring to your attention the frustration this Is
causing in the middle of summer, not being able to use 2/3 of our deck. The pitch is everywhere, on the roof on the railing, on the
porch, in our hair,on our shoes. The tree is also leaning.
We've applied Murphy's oil soap daily,to the porch to have a short lived reprieve from the sticky mess but we are about done.We
are pressure washing today day only because the wind yesterday blew a lot of the pitch onto our porch furniture on the other 1/3
part of our deck the portion we are trying to still use.
This tree needs to go!
Thanks for your attention in this matter.

Hello Stefan,
Upon further review of the danger tree removal request by Carrie Bulmer, the Planning Department will require
that the two new trees be planted by Ms. Bulmer within the shoreline buffer that is waterward of the residence. If
the association will allow the trees to be planted in the community's common area, that is where they should be
planted and must be maintained.
The two new evergreen trees within the shoreline and landslide buffer should be located waterward of the
development to enhance the wildlife buffer between the development and the slope and shoreline. Thank you.

Could you give me a call regarding the 2 mitigation trees for 771 Windjammer. I have received two different answers from
your department and just want to make sure it is handled properly.
Thanks,

That's great news. I did not know that. So, you are approved to plant there with it and any other tree that is
native. Vine maples are beautiful also. Thank you.

Hi Grace thank you getting back to me. I did talk with Mariah last Friday, and I got the tree mentioned in my email from a list of native PNW
from Sky Nursery, in Shoreline Wa., it is in the family of trees related to red cedari will check in with them again, I believe it was also on the list
Mariah sent last Friday. The other tree I've been considering is vine maple. Those are also native and very plentiful in the cascades.
Thanks for your time.

Hello Carrie,
I'm sorry that I have been hard to get hold of. Yes, you may plant the trees on the side of the house if
you cannot plant them in the buffer. The shrubs that you are proposing to plant are not native, that I
am aware of. For instance, salal and evergreen huckleberry are native shrubs. The trees should be
native to Western Washington. For instance, western red cedar, madrone, dogwood, etc. Thank you
for checking with us.

Subject:Approval of fir tree
Hi Grace, I received your approval via email, for our fir tree to be cut down at Harstene Point address 771 East
Windjammer Cir. Thank you! I also wanted to clarify your suggestion of two native, 3 year old trees for us to plant
in leu of the the fir being taken down.
Is it ok to plant those new trees on the side of the house. Allowing more space to grow away from wind and the
bluff and to reduce overcrowding. We plan to plant 2 thuja Plicata trees that will grow and make a hedge over time.
Complimenting the landscape. They are also deer resistant a huge benefit. We think planting on the side yard will
be a safer and healthier option for the new trees overtime.
Thank you for your time.
Carrie
I left a phone msg today too.
