Tree is composed of 2 separate stems starting 4'from the ground line. No rot is evident in the base.
There is a dead rotten branch in the upper canopy of the main stem which is likely carrying rot into the
main stem.The connecting wood holding the 2 stems together shows signs of fracture, splitting. Smaller
stem to the south would likely break off from the larger stem to the north.
Perspective: Location of tree is not proximate to any current or known future structures. Should the
smaller stem break off it would damage the neighbors fence line and gate 26'to the south of the tree.
Given the condition of other maples on the property showing rot and degradation thru the boles I would
suspect there is rot in this tree. Besides potential damage to the neighboring fence the other potential
hazard would be to the human use of the Beach's property and the neighboring horses pastured in the
adjoining field should a failure occur when near the tree. Tree is exposed to the wind and subject to
windthrow. Given the fact the speed at which hardwood trees deteriorate (standing or on the ground) I
would suggest its removal and in its place plant native cedar or douglas-fir which is more preferred in a
stream protection zone. `

This a very large cedar which established itself on a tall nurse stump/snag. Tree germinated on top of
the nurse stump sending its roots to the ground around the outside of the nurse stump. The contained
nurse stump is/has deteriorated leaving the tree elevated by roots acting as stilts. The tree has a 5 to 10
degree tilt leaning northeasterly to an established garage on the property. Conifer trees will grow
straight,vertical from the ground. If a conifer tree gets tilted for whatever reason it will start to turn
itself vertical by adding compression wood on the side of the tree leaning towards the ground. This tree
shows no to very little correction which implies that the lean is likely relatively new. Additionally, the
top foliage is dying out leading me to believe the tree is near its end.
Perspective: The very nature of this tree established 10'off the ground on a nurse stump coupled with
its size,shallow rooted nature of cedar and lean makes this tree a hazard with a moderate to high risk
factor of failure. If it falls it could strike the garage which is 115'away. Tree is exposed to the wind and
subject to windthrow. Given its potential instability,dying foliage and lean towards the garage I would
consider this tree a high risk, if it fails it could strike the garage. 7

This very large Douglas-fir appears to have been damaged, partially pushed over at an earlier year in its
life. Damage to the base of the stump is very evident with scaring likely indicating a high probability of
rot in the roots, stump and lower bole. The tree leans easterly towards the future Beach's house. J

Perspective: As very evident in the deformed stump pictures this tree has moderate to high probability f r
of failure. Given the height of the tree it could strike the garage on the property which is 89'away or
come very close to the deck on the future Beach's home which is 130'away. Tree is exposed to the GE�fL/n, Q
wind and subject to windthrow. I would consider this tree a high risk: if it fails it could strike the garage
or future Beach home.

This tree has rot and conk in it throughout its bole. Large portion of the main stem top is already gone.
Perspective: High risk of failure in the bole due to the extensive rot throughout. Although the main
stem is 71'from the garage, the minor stem is 62'from the garage and of sufficient height to strike the
garage. Tree is exposed to the wind and subject to windthrow or snapping off. I would consider this
tree a high risk: if it fails it could strike the garage.

3 shows the conk/rot at the base of the tree.

This tree has a dead top with rot showing to its butt.
Perspective: High risk of failure in the bole due to the extensive rot throughout. Although the main
stem is 76'from the garage,the top crown branches are 64'from the garage and of sufficient height to
strike the garage. Tree is exposed to the wind and subject to windthrow or snapping off. I would
consider this tree a high risk: if it fails it could strike the garage.
Picture 1 shows the tree. Note dead rotten top left side. Picture 2 shows the rot/seam extending down
to the base. Picture 3 shows the rot at the base.

This tree and tree number 7 appear to have been established on a common nurse log. As the trees
(trees 6 and 7)grow they send roots down and around the nurse log. Eventually the nurse log rots away
leaving just the trees. This coupled with the shallow rooting nature of hemlock leaves the tree likely less
stable than if it established itself initially on the ground. The tree appears relatively healthy with the
only issue noticed was a frost crack seam limited to one quadrant.
Perspective: Tree lies 113'and 116'from a neighbor's shed and the Beach's garage, respectively. Trees
do appear stable. But since their establishment is on a nurse log,they will be suspect of some risk. Tree
is exposed to the wind and subject to windthrow.

This tree and tree number 6 appear to have been established on a common nurse log. As the trees
(trees 6 and 7)grow they send roots down and around the nurse log. Eventually the nurse log rots away
leaving just the trees. This coupled with the shallow rooting nature of cedar leaves the tree likely less
stable than if it established itself initially on the ground. The tree appears relatively healthy.
Perspective: Tree lies 107'and 103'from a neighbor's shed and the Beach's garage, respectively. Trees
do appear stable. But since their establishment is on a nurse log,they will be suspect of some risk.Tree
is exposed to the wind and subject to windthrow.
Picture 1 shows tree 6 on the left and tree 7 on the right. Pictures 62 and 3 show the base of the trees
after establishment on a nurse log. Note root system is favored on one side of the nurse log.

This tree appears to have been established on a nurse log. As nurse log trees grow,they send roots
down and around the nurse log. Eventually the nurse log rots away leaving just the trees. This coupled
with the shallow rooting nature of cedar leaves the tree likely less stable than if it established itself
initially on the ground. The tree has multiple established tops. Although no rot was witnessed the
multiple tops weaken the bole with tops often splitting out. Otherwise,the tree appears relatively
healthy.
Perspective: Multiple tops and establishment on a nurse log renders the tree a higher risk of failure.
Location of tree is not proximate to any current or known future structures. Should the tree fail it could
damage the neighbors fence line to the south of the tree. Besides potential damage to the neighboring
fence the other potential hazard would be to the human use of the Beach's property and the
neighboring horses pastured in the adjoining field should a failure occur when near the tree.

Maple has rot carrying into stump. Main stem is broken/rotted off. Multiple sprouts at base of tree.
Given the rot in the stump I consider the sprouts unstable as they grow due to the potential to break off.
Perspective: Given the rot the risk of failure is high. Location of tree is not proximate to any current or
known future structures. Should the tree fail it could damage the neighbors fence line 68'to the south
of the tree. Besides potential damage to the neighboring fence the other potential hazard would be to
the human use of the Beach's property and the neighboring horses pastured in the adjoining field
should a failure occur when near the tree.

This tree was established on a nurse stump. As nurse stump trees grow,they send roots down and
around the nurse stump. Eventually the nurse stump rots away leaving just the tree. This coupled with
the shallow rooting nature of cedar leaves the tree likely less stable than if it established itself initially on
the ground. It has a lean towards the creek and failure will likely place it over and into the Cranberry
Creek which is 17'away. There is no rot evident. Otherwise the tree is relatively healthy.
Perspective: This tree is a high risk to fail as the nurse stump rots away or the weight of the leaning tree
fractures from the nurse stump. Failure will most likely place the tree into the creek. The only potential
hazard would be to the human use of the Beach's property.

of the tree, Besides potential damage to the neighboring fence the other potential hazard would be to
the human use of the Beach's property and the neighboring horses pastured in the adjoining field
should a failure occur when near the tree.

Hello,we are requesting 13 trees to be removed in the stream buffer area from our property on 341. E.
Cranberry Creek Rd, Shelton, WA 98584, as noted on the attachment. We have hired a Mark Pentony, a
professional Forester to perform this assessment. Also attached is his letter of instruction and his summary of
findings on each of these trees along with his findings.
We are going to be building a new house shortly and will be excavating the area for the house, drain field, etc.,
and would like to remove the trees in its entirety from the roots at the same time. We also understand about
the stream bank and there is one tree that is closest to the bank that we can just cut down and leave the
stump, if necessary. Our preference it to remove all those trees by root that are posing a safety hazard for us
and our family and friends.
Most of these trees are rotten and unstable. We are highly concerned for the safety and liability of people
walking on our property especially with our young grandchildren who will want to climb trees as most children
like to do. One grandson (7 years old) lives with us and there are two other grandchildren (10 and 6 years old)
that live nearby with whom we have over a lot over the weekends and now that we are going to be living
closer,they will most likely spend more time with us as well.
We are not anti-trees people as we love them and are willing to plant any young native trees and native plants
in the place of those that are taken down.
Please note that there are other healthy trees that will remain intact on this property and concerned about the
buffer areas.
