The following is a brief description of your buildings and the items that were addressed and discussed in order for your buildings to meet the Uniform Building Code. I have included a sketch of your buildings in relation to the yards around them for additional reference. Please note "Yards" are distances to assumed property lines between existing buildings. 1) Building #1: 150'x150'x24'(22,500 sq:'ft.). Occupancy: B2 Building,Construction Type:"U.B.C. Type IIN. Box 186 426 West Cedar Shelton, WA 98584 RE: FOOTING DESIGN vs. FOOTING INSTALLATION SKOOKUM LUMBER COMPANY- SHELTON, WASHINGTON CCP DRAWING No. D-S2 (Issued for Construction 3-16-93) CCP JOB No. 93-104 Dear Rob: Our footing design for the above referenced project called for: ■ 6'0'x 6'--0"x V 0"footings reinforced with 6-#5 each way, 3"clear from the bottom of the footing. ■ 1'4'of soil cover to assist with hold down and to achieve adequate depth for freeze protection. ■ Concrete piers were to be constructed from the top of the footing to just above the ground level. It is our understanding that: The footings were poured without piers. The original bottom of footing elevation remained as shown on the design drawings. - The footing excavation was completelyfilled with concrete to ground level rather than using 12 inches of earth cover. -1- -2- CONCLUSIONS. 1. The concrete piers are not necessary. They were merely to get the structural steel up out of the ground, which has been achieved as currently constructed. 2. As long as the bottom of footing is at the same elevation as originally designed, the total footing weight is heavier than the original footing plus earth, and therefore, is even better for assisting with hold down. 3. The footings now do not meet the code required minimum reinforcing requirements of 0.0018 times the gross area, however, at this thickness they do conform to the requirements of UBC section 2622 for plain concrete. Based on the above conclusions, it is our opinion that the building foundations as constructed will perform adequately for the intended purpose.
