SHORELINE EXEMPTION APPLICATION
Shoreline development in Mason County must conform with the Mason County Shoreline
Master Program. The program requires that substantial development (any development of
which the total cost or fair market value exceeds $8,504.00 or materially interferes with the
normal public use of the water or shorelines of the State) be reviewed with the goals, polices, and
performance standards established in the Master Program.
New or expanded docks or beach access structures will likely require a substantial development permit
instead of a shoreline exemption. Consult with a Mason County Planner.

Development proposal (identify and describe the proposed project, including the type of materials to be used,
construction methods, principle dimensions, and other pertinent information):
Repairs to existing floating dock,no expansion of the footprint. Demo and remove 12 existing pile guide hoops,to be replaced with
stabilizing pile guides. Remove and replace all rotted fascia and all other lumber associated with replacement of pile hoops,to be
replaced with untreated Alaskan yellow cedar. Demo, remove and dispose of rotted lumber and fascia in the areas where dock
sections join to install transition plates.
Existing Use (identify current use of property with exist improvements):
This property is the Glen Ayr Resort and RV park located in Hoodsport, which has 750-feet of
shoreline. There is an existing private pier, ramp, and floating dock system, which provides moorage
on Hood Canal. The float features 10 moorage slips for boats up to 24 feet and is supported by 12
existing piles.
Reason for requesting development:
The tension cables that held the floating dock together broke due to recent storms.This means the dock structure is no longer securely
connected and at higher risk of immediate failure.This is to repair in-like and in-kind the existing floating dock system to make it safe for
public use and to prevent any unnecessary impacts to public safety,the surrounding environment,and existing shoreline improvements.
