The purpose of the pre-submissiod application is to identify and/or eliminate as many potential problems as
possible in order for the project to be processed without delay_ Representatives from the Building Department,Fire
Marshal's office, Environmental Health, Planning, and Public Works departments may attend the meeting to discuss rules
and regulations applicable to the proposed project. Topics covered during the meeting will include the comprehensive plan,
shoreline program, zoning,availability of sewer and potable water,development concepts,building construction,fire
protection and life safety of the proposed project. By providing the most accurate and detailed information on the
application and site plan your pre-submission conference will be more informative.
Pre-Submission conferences are held every Wednesday and last approximately one hour. To schedule a meeting

Pre-Submission Conference
For
Modular Office Building
Narrative Description:
Skookum Lumber Division of WELCO Lumber Company proposes to have a modular office
building added to the existing millsite. The intent of providing the modular office building is to
provide an office for the mill manager and his support staff. The manager and some of his
support staff are currently housed in the existing "Showroom" at the millsite. The remaining
support staff are currently housed in Olympia. A single story structure with a floor area of 1,400
square feet will be adequately sized. A floor plan for the proposed building is attached. A front
elevation of the proposed building is not currently available however a typical front elevation is
attached. It is desirable that the building be located close to the Mill and along the paved
roadway leading to the mill.
It is proposed that the building be located on and adjacent to an existing graveled parking area.
Past experience has shown that the gravel parking area is adequately sized to accommodate the
necessary number of parking spaces and the modular office building. Photographs of the parking
were taken this spring and are attached to this narrative. Several yellow painted log "curbs" have
already been placed in the parking lot. It is proposed that these log "curbs" be used to delineate a
fire lane in front of the building.
It is proposed that a septic system design be prepared for Mason County approval to serve the
modular office building. Past (county approved) repair work for the septic system that serves the
mill lunchroom and restrooms has demonstrated that sufficient area for the drainfield should be
available adjacent to the existing repaired drainfield for both a new drainfield and reserve area.
Storm runoff from the existing parking area currently drains to an existing grated drain which
also serves the vehicle wash pad and fueling area constructed several years ago. Use of the
parking lot will not change the amount of runoff from the parking lot. An existing earthen berm
between the parking area and the stream shown on the site plan prevents parking lot runoff from
entering the stream. It is proposed that roof runoff from the new building be disposed of using
underground percolation.
It is proposed that a low (maximum height 4 feet) gravity block wall be constructed at the west
side of the modular office building to facilitate grading around the building. It is proposed that
the modular office building be set on an approved treated wood foundation and hold downs.
A copy of the legal description for the millsite is attached. Also attached is a map of the legal
description. An "X" has been added to the map to show the approximate location of the
proposed modular building.
Fire protection for the modular office building can be provided by use of the exiting fire hydrant
located at the west side of the parking lot near the paved roadway. The fire hydrant location is
shown on the site plan.
