A PROCLAMATION BY THE COMMISSIONERS OF MASON COUNTY
WHEREAS, the people of Mason County have enjoyed continuing
and increasing use of libraries as centers of information, education
and recreation;
WHEREAS , the development of lifetime reading habits is vital to
the continuation of our society, and the freedom to read is the
responsibility and privilege for all people in a democracy.
WHEREAS , libraries are a force in learning and are a means by
which everyone can keep abreast of today' s changing world. Libraries
provide intellectual stimulation and promote individual fulfillment
and foster the highest quality of citizen capability.
WHEREAS , libraries make accessible the accumulated experience
of all mankind, from which present and future generations may derive
the wisdom and understanding vital for abundant lives.
WHEREAS, library users individually or associated as Friends of
the Library have made the support and continued growth of libraries
their special service to their communities , recognizing and reinforc-
ing the library' s unique role in the life of the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, we the Commissioners of Mason County, do hereby
proclaim the week of April 14th through April 20th, 1985 as
NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK
and encourage all citizens of Mason County to take advantage of
the extensive resources available to them through the fine libraries
serving Mason County: the Timberland North Mason Library, the
Timberland South Mason Library, and the Shelton Public Library.
