You asked about the bearing capacity for gabion baskets. We have found a manufacturer's technical reference that certifies that gabions are rated for a bearing pressure of at least 3000 pounds per square foot. The required bearing pressure for the walkway is 1742 pounds per square foot. Please let me know it this is sufficient, or if you need a signed & stamped letter. The bog is located along Cranberry Lake and is only 30'x100'at the most and the rest of the 2.57 acres is mainly shrub scrub. The proposed trail is in the N. E. comer of section 28NW, township 21 N, range 3W. To get to the wetlands take highway 3 to Mason Lake Road, then continue until St. Andrews Road and take a left. Then continue until Tingal Road and take a left. This trail will begin at a clearing managed for timber. This clearing is made up of salal, wild black huckleberry, bracken fern, scotch broom, trailing blackberry, and the occasional alder, cedar, white pine, douglas fir, and hemlock. Then it proceeds into a forest made up of all the previous mentioned trees with a majority of cedar, hemlock, and douglas fir trees. The ground cover consists of sword fern, lady fern, bracken fem, assorted wild huckleberry, mosses, lichens, and quite a few nurse logs. It then turns into a wetland that starts in the forest and fades into shrub scrub. The wetland is next to a bog and grows skunk cabbage, slough sedge, salmon berry, wild rose, alder, cascara, willow, black twin berry, spirea, horse tail, and cat tail. It will then loop back and go through the wetland next to the bog and through the shrub scrub into the forested area and back to the clearing.
