SITE ADDRESS: Lake Limerick 5, Tracts 75 & 76, Shelton,WA COUNTY/PARCEL#: Mason/321275400075&321275400076 Dear Mr. Kukuk; As contracted,Agua Tierra Land and Water Services, Inc. (Agua Tierra)completed a Year-1 restoration monitoring inspection of the above noted site. The purpose of the visit was to comply with Mason County, WA Resource Ordinance requirements for monitoring of restoration project performance. PROJECT BACKGROUND/UNDERSTANDING During 2004 unpermitted logging and land clearing occurred on the subject parcel within the Fish and Wildlife Habitat Conservation Area(FWHCA)buffer associated with a tributary stream of Cranberry Creek. Mason County required the property owners to restore/mitigate for impacts to the protected resource. Agua Tierra prepared an Impacts Analysis and Restoration Plan in January of 2005. The plan identified a restoration area of approximately 6000ft2 and recommended the following vegetation installation. TABLE 1 Restoration Planting Area Species, Density, Size, and Quantity (Restoration Area A=6,000 care feet Planting Strata Species Density Size Qty Area(*) (feet on center A Tree Douglas fir(Pseudotsuga 10 1 gallon or 60 menziesii) bare root A Shrub evergreen huckleberry 5 1 gallon or 60 (Vaccinium ovatum) bare root A Shrub red huckleberry(Vaccinium 5 1 gallon or 60 arvi olium) bare root A Groundcover salal (Gaultheria shallon) 5 1 gallon 166 A Groundcover kinnikinnick(Arctostaphylos 5 4 inch 167 uva-ursi (*) Note: There is only planting area"A". RESULTS Jim Cooper, Restoration and Construction Specialist, conducted a site visit on 3 November 2006. Mr. Cooper found no evidence that restoration work was completed. However it should be noted that substantial natural colonization of native species occurred since site disturbance. Understory plants in the buffer are well established and several volunteer conifers (western hemlock)have sprouted in the Restoration area(see attached photos) RECOMMENDATIONS We recommend conifer trees be installed in Winter of 2006/2007. The original restoration plan called for 60 Douglas fir(Pseudotsuga menziesii). Agua Tierra now recommends planting to the specifications below. TABLE 2 Amended Restoration Planting Area Species,Density, Size, and Quantity (Restoration Area A=6,000 square feet Planting Strata Species Density Size Qty Area(*) (feet on center A Tree Douglas fir(Pseudotsuga 10 1 gallon or 20 menziesii) bare root A Tree Western hemlock (Tsuga 10 1 gallon or 40 hetero lla) bare root (*) Note: There is only planting area "A". Upon completion of planting contact Agua Tierra to set up another 1 St year monitoring visit of the site. ESTIMATED QUANTITIES ADJUSTMENT The recommended Quantity/ies of plants is/are an estimate. This estimate is based on overall planting area estimate, recommended plant spacing, estimated credit/allowance for volunteer plant colonization and overlapping areas between plants of different strata (i.e. trees, shrubs, and groundcover. Adjustment and field fitting may be required. Submitted By: Reviewed By: 4 Jim Cooper Csotian Fr uth, M.Sc., C.E. April 6, 2007 Stephanie Pawlawski Code Enforcement Officer PO Box 279 Shelton, Washington 98584 Dear Ms. Pawlawski; Enclosed is a copy to the Agua Tierra's report in regards to Lot 75 and 76 in Division 5 of Lake Limerick. As I stated on the phone, in February, after reading the report, I went out to the subject property and planted 75 trees. There were 25 Douglas firs, 45 hemlocks and 5 cedars. These trees were planted in the 25 foot rectangular restoration zone as marked on the map. I place colored ribbons on each planted tree to indicate its planting. Could you let me know if this addresses the problem sufficiently or is there something more that needs to be done to bring the property to its proper restoration mode. Thank you for your time.
