RE: Deck Cover
Dear Mr. Avery,
In response to a recent complaint our office investigated construction of
a deck cover without the required permits. The construction is in violation of
Mason County Ordinance and Uniform Building Code requirements as it does
require a permit for the work that is being done. In addition, the complaint has
been forwarded to the State of Washington, Dept. of Labor & Industries-Factory
Assembled Structures Division due to the fact that the construction is bearing
on the mobile/manufactured home. That agency also has specific regulations
when constructing structures adjacent to mobile/manufactured homes and
generally do not approve of additions which add to the weight bearing of the
unit.
To correct this violation, you must secure the appropriate permits from
the Dept. of Labor & Industries or apply to our office for an after the fact permit
and submit plans which will show the alteration of the cover so that it will be
free standing and self supporting. The other option would be to remove the
cover.

Our office recently investigated a complaint of a 6' x 12' deck cover
being constructed at E 330 Dartmoor Dr., Shelton located within Lake Limerick.
Upon investigation, the inspector noted that the cover is bearing directly on the
manufactured home which is the reason for this notification to you. Our policy
is that we will not issue a permit or an order for removal unless the Dept. of
Labor and Industries decision coincides with ours. We will send notification to
the owner, Dale Avery, that the structure is in violation as it is not permitted
and that the complaint has been forwarded to your office for investigation.
