Around the 50's, a dike was constructed to impound an area to train dogs, including a culvert
with a tide gate. This blocked tidal exchange to about five acres of salt marsh and tidelands.
The culvert failed in December 2012, allowing tidal exchange in the `dog pond' through a
small culvert exposed under the failed culvert. This culvert is also failing and needs
replacement and upgrading for better tidal exchange and fish passage.
