RE: Landslide Activity Response
Site Address: 241 NE Alder Creek Lane, Belfair, WA
Project Description: Landslide activity
Parcel No.: 12332-50-00906
To Whom It May Concern:
In response to recent landslide activity involving your parcel, Mason County has recorded
with the Auditors office the attached document. This is standard procedure when the usage of a
parcel is temporarily denied or adversely affected due to such circumstances.
A site inspection was conducted on December 4, 2007 and a Do Not Occupy notice was
posted due to landslide activity. The retaining wall, which is within 10' of the house, and
adjacent slope is showing signs of failure due to water saturation. The soils behind the
retaining wall and up to the foundation of the house were probed and found to be very soft.
There are also steep slopes on two other sides of the house that are also showing signs of
failure.
It will be necessary to obtain a geo-technical report and all the necessary permits prior to
starting any construction or repairs on site or to the existing structure. Downspout drains and the
foundation drains for the house need to be tight lined to the base of the slope and the yard, and
the slope needs to be covered with clear plastic to help prevent future water saturation.
Once the parcel is deemed to have stabilized or if the situation changes on site, further
addendum's to this document could be recorded. Notification will be sent to you regarding any
further recordings.
If you should have any questions regarding this notification, please contact me at
(360) 427-9670 ext 356.
Sincerely,
*Kinirock

The house is adjacent to a retaining that is within 10 feet at it's closes point. The retaining wall is about 10 feet high and is located at the top of a steep slope about 25 to 30 feet high. The wall and the
adjacent slope is showing signs of failure do to water saturation. The soils behind the wall and up to the foundation on the house were probed and found to be very soft.I was able to push the probe in up to
the handle with little or no effort, the probe it 4 feet long. There are steep slopes on two other sides of the house that are also showing signs of failure. But are far enough away from the house that may or
may not cause damage to the house if they fail. The down spout drains and the foundation drains for the house need to be tight lined to the base of the slope and the yard and the slope need to be covered with
clear plastic to help prevent furture water saturation.A geo-tec report needs to be done for the site and give recommendations for future repairs.
