At the time of inspection, the approximate building pad and footprint for the structure had been cut, pushed and filled into the natural grade of the site. The parcel is naturally down sloping from SW to NE, leading the largest portion of reworked.and fill materials along the NE margins of the development pad, measuring approximately 5 to 6 feet high placed at approximately a 2H:1 V slope angle. The majority of the fill appears to be reworked material from cuts performed at the upper portion of the build pad, creating a combination cut and fill, or at least only minimal thickness of fill on the cut side just incidental to moving the earth around. Imported fill material was used as the final fill surfacing directly within the flat building pad area and footprint where the home will be built. The imported material appears to be a 5/8-minus crushed rock or something similar. The edge of the crushed rock placement at the top of the 2H:1 V fill slope indicates that this imported fill material is at least 12-inches in thickness. Hand augering was performed within the crushed rock to a depth of 20 inches and the contact with the reworked native soils was never encountered. Therefore, we assume that within the center of the As part of the inspection, we probed the top of the 5/8-minus crushed rock subgrade at evenly spaced intervals within the using a Humboldt Manufacturing model H-4188 '/ inch inspection probe by putting the entire upper body weight onto the probe and measuring the depth of penetration. The 5/8-minus crushed rock was found to be firm and unyielding within the entire home footprint area. A similar type of probing inspection was performed just beyond the edge of the crushed rock to investigate the fill placement and compaction of the reworked native material that was used as fill. The top of the slope was probed at regular intervals and was found to have a penetration in the range of 8 to 10 inches. Test pilot holes were hand augered at two locations also near the top of the slope to investigate the placement and compaction of the reworked native fill at a depth of 12 to 20 inches below the surface. The depth of penetration was also found to be within the range of 8 to 10 inches at depth within the borings. Based on the results of the inspection, the reworked native material may have been weakened due to rainfall that would loosen the surface during construction, and also would impact the ability to place and compact it at the optimum moisture content for compaction. However, given that the 5/8-minus crushed rock was placed directly within the home footprint with a minimum thickness of 12-inches, and at least to 20 inches thick in some locations, this should be sufficient to serve as as suitable subgrade for supporting the home and the structure foundations cr_',1 I^ 1, lip We appreciate the opportunity to serve your geotechnical needs on this project and look forward to working with you in the future.
