Occupancy type: Workrooms and Offices
Minimun Ventilation Rates: Outdoor Airflow Rate 5 cfm/person,
Exhaust Airflow Rate: 0.5 cfm/ft2
Basis of Ventilation Requirements:
This analysis addresses three types of spaces in the overall structure, (1) the garden areas,(2)
the processing areas and (3)the office/mechanical area. All are "occupied space" per Section
401.2, but each will have vastly different times of occupancy and number of occupants. The
occupancy times and number of occupants in each is shown in Table 1. Area 1 &2 are
assumed to be a workroom occupancy(Table 403.3). Natural ventilation during the majority of
operational time is applicable under Section 401.2 and Section 401.2.2. for the garden area.
Additional Mechanical ventilation will also be provided in the this and all other areas during the
brief times of occupancy dun natural.- 'IV of We tutal area (Section
Table 1 Occupancy:

Garden Areas: 2 maximun 1 hour Daily
Processing areas 1 maximun 20 minutes,max Daily
Office/Mechanical 1 maximun 4 hours Daily
The short duration of time that the garden and processing areas are actually occupied, allows
the natural air flow plus additional mechanical ventilation to be required only during that time
of occupancy. The remainder of the time limited air flow will continue.

Natural Ventilation
Garden Area:
it circulation between the garden areas is specifically
restricted by the fire code and the subsequesnt construction of the 3hr fire walls. Thus each
garden area is considered as a seperate and distinct area for ventilation purposes. The average
area of a typical garden area is 5,040sq.ft. as show in the above table. This area is subdiviced
into two sections by a ceiling height woodframed wall with two 4'x8' openings one at each end.
These openings will allow a flow of air between each of the two subdivided area, but not out of
the specific garden area itself. Each garden area has two 3' fire doors;
n each side for a ,
The natural flow of air with the doors open during the time that workers occupy the space
allows the air to flow from the floor level out of the open roof vent, which is sufficent when not
occupied even with the doors closed due to the normal AC unit cycling. But does not meet the
4% minimun requirement if occupied. The requirement for the doors to be open while workers
are in the garden will be normal operating procedure d

'" The remaining time while the space is not occupied the doors will
be closed and the normal cycling as required of the AC units will continue. See the following
