believe, are composed of 1X2 chords and web members with either 1/4" ply or what appears to be pieces
of siding 1/8" thick used as gusset plates stapled to the chords and webs.
some of the joints have pulled apart causing the deflections.
I advised the owners not to stay in the house until repairs can be done. They said they would comply with
that request as they have a liveable trailer on-site immediately available. I was particularly concerned
with winter upon us and the threat of snow now showing up on weather reports.
I am working on repair drawings which would involve restructuring the roof. To save the owners
considerable cost I am attempting to come in underneath the existing roof sheathing with new rafters.
Simpson has run tests with load values on using A35 clips screwed to the underside of the sheathing and
nailed to the 2X rafters . This approach will allow for the repair work to be done as I envision. I'm hoping
the county has a quick turn-around policy in place to get this work done as soon as possible.
Give me your thoughts on the best way to handle this corrective/repair work in a timely manner.
Thanks,
Ken Bowman, PE
