The addition is designed to 25 psf snow load, seismic zone D2 and 85 mph wind exposure B. As stated in reference (a) "Since the new addition is braced on both sides and the rear by the existing structure, a lateral analysis is not provided". The existing structure is therefore assumed to be adequate for the wind and seismic loads based on prescriptive requirements for the original structure. The addition does not significantly increase the lateral loads on the existing structure. Sincerely N5 MUST BE THN THE pB SITE C. Richard Rock, PE FOR iNSpECT10N• Rack Engineering 3525 Surrey Ct SE, Port Orchard, WA 98366 `GfAPO Phone: (360)871-8660 Fax: (360)871-8660 t RYAS Q E-mail richard.rock@wavecable.com October 12, 2007 Subject : Dave and Suzie McDonie Addition i 251 NE Belfair Manor Dr 0 4 4Ep Belfair, WA 98528 /4 iSfoNAL ' Encl: (1) Owner Provided drawings of Addition EXPIRES 01-09- (2) StruCalc Printout for Existing and New Rafters The subject addition is shown in drawings provided by the owner/builder in enclosure(1). This letter provides engineering for the supports to the existing roof structure and foundation requirements under the portion of the new front bearing wall that were not supported on an existing foundation. The addition is to have 2x6 16" oc standard framed walls to prescriptive requirements and 2x10 rafters 24"oc. The non-standard framing of the roof is that the rafters are supported by blocking to the existing roof and that the rafters have been spliced at mid span. Analysis of the existing 2x6 framed roof shows that it is inadequate to support the weight of the new framed roof as shown in enclosure(1)without additional stiffening. Per enclosure(2) the 2x6 framing 24" oc is adequate if each rafter has an additional 2x6 nailed to it to double the strength. The new rafters are to be attached to the existing rafters with two rows of minimum 1 Od nails 6" oc. The new rafters may be ended a maximum of 9" short of the bearing wall and ridge board. The new 2x6 rafters must be a single piece of No. 2 or better BF or DF lumber approximately 9 ft long and may not be spliced. Due to possible interferences in the existing roof, the new rafters may extend a maximum of/z" below the existing rafters. Where the new rafters are braced to the extended roof for the stairwell, the rafters and bracing are adequate without modification because of the bearing walls on both sides of the stairway. The 2x10 spliced rafters in the new roof are adequate with a minimum 3'- " overlap and two rows of 10d nails 6" oc in the overlap. 16d nails are acceptable. The foundation footing under the new section of bearing wall in the front must be a minimum of 12" wide and 6"to provide less than 1500 psf soil loading. The framing shall be attached to the foundation per prescriptive requirement of 2006 IRC_ All other framing and building requirements are to be per prescriptive requirement of 2006 IRC. Since the new addition is braced by existing structure on both sides and the rear, a lateral analysis is not provided. C.
