HomeMy WebLinkAboutHMP - HMP Habitat Managment Plan - 7/21/2005 Robert&Kim Christian 71 NE Anchor Dr. Belfair,WA 98528 July 21, 2005 SUBJECT: HABITAT MANAGEMENT PLAN: Along the north west corner of the property lays a survey hub. From this corner a 6' cyclone fence goes 33' to a corner pole and then proceeds southeast to the side corner post. This section along the 33' is the only area that is planned for planting of vegetation. Enclosed are pictures of the area showing existing vegetation as of 7/14/05. On site is a well-established mix of species. They are Salal(Gaultheria shallon), Doug fir (Pserudotsuga menziesil), Salmonberry(Rubus epectbilis), Trailing blackberry(Rubus ursinus), Red alder(Alnus rubra), Timothy grass(Phleum pratense), Reed Canary grass (Phalaris arundinacea), Kellogg Sedge(Carex Kelloggii), and Skunk Cabbage (Lysichiton americanum). The property boundaries are defined by the 6' cyclone fence and create a clear demarcation from the existing buffer habitat area. Per Mason County's request additional species are proposed for planting to enhance the existing site's functions. The species are Red Alder(5 trees) and Vine Maple(5 trees) and Oregon Ash (3 trees). These species of over storage are to be placed alternatively with 7-10' of spacing. The site already has a very well established shrub and ground cover species as illustrated. All that will be required is to add these 13 trees to balance out the overstory and ground cover. Mitigation planting will consist of the installation of native deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs. Trees will be planted 7 to 10 on center and shall be nursery grown, 3-5' tall. Based on current vegetation there will be significant volunteer species. Mitigation planting should occur in the late fall to early spring rainy seasons, where irrigation generally is not necessary. The maintenance period shall extend for three growing season's after the planting operations are complete. The maintenance program requires monthly visits during the growing season, (March through October). Replanting of any dead plants noted in the first year of monitoring will be conducted the first year(winter) after installation only. 0 Survival of planted vegetation shall be a minimum of 80/o after three years. Monitoring shall be annually for a period of three years following construction. Photographs will be taken from the same location to document appearance, progress and changes. Plants installed shall be visually evaluated to determine rate of survival. An annual report describing and quantifying the level of success of the plan will be written and submitted to Mason County for review and approval. i Schedule of Reporting: • As built report: At the competition of planting, an as-built report will be submitted. A service of permanent photos will be established. • Year One: consist of the growing season following the first year of planting. First site visit approximately mid May. Photos taken at this time. Site visits two will be at the end of the growing season. • Year Two: one site visits in mid summer to monitor the ground cover ad canopy cover. • Year Three: first site visits will be during spring and second site visit will be in late summer to evaluate growth. This last site visit will be to determine if goals have been met. Mitigation Cost Estimate. 5 Red Alder 10' on center 5 gallon size $125.00 5 Vine Maple 10' on center 5 gallon size $125.00 3 Oregon Ash 7' on center 2 gallon size $45.00 Total: $295.00 Installation Cost $75.00 Contingency Cost(20%) $74.00 Total Cost for bonding purposes $444.00 Report completed by Chuck Hampton, Certified Wetland Biologist.
