The attached plans have been reviewed as follows: The following revisions or additions to the design
as shown would qualify the protection for improved rates based upon information shown on these
plans: Arrangements should be made to allow a representative of this Bureau to complete a cover
inspection of all piping before it is concealed by building construction, and to witness tests of the local
water motor alarm and 2-inch water supply test pipe. Completed copies of the Contractor's Material
and Test Certificates for both the overhead and underground piping should be submitted to this Bureau.
All piping, valves, and fittings should be listed and labeled by UL for fire service and installed, tested,
and flushed in accordance with NFPA standards.
A minimum temperature of 40 degrees F must be maintained with a thermostatically controlled heating
system in all areas containing wet pipe sprinkler equipment.
1. Revise design to provide a density of .13 gpm per square foot over an area of 2,500 square
feet and reserve 650 gpm for hose allowances.
2. Provide detailed information regarding location of flow test, number and diameters of outlets
flowed, pitot pressures, whether or not stream straighteners were used, and static and residual
pressures. Adjustments should be made in flow test to accommodate for changes in elevation.
3. The use of sidewall sprinklers in normal situations is discouraged. If sidewall sprinklers are
used, they must be specifically listed for use in ordinary hazard occupancies and the spacing
should not exceed 10 ft. between sprinklers with maximum throw across the rooms of 15 ft.
Spacing should not exceed 80 sq. ft. per sidewall sprinkler, and their use should be made under
smooth ceiling construction only.
4. Insulation batts should be secured in place with wire mesh to prevent sagging and possible
obstruction to sprinkler discharge.
5. Provide detailed information regarding flow test, such as number and diameters of outlets
flowed, pitot pressures, and whether or not stream straighteners were used.
6. Coach screw rods should be installed in accordance with Tables 2-6.4.1 and 2-6.4.9 of NFPA
13 (1991). If member widths do not allow conformance to the Standards,use alternate method
for hanging pipe.
7. Extend sprinkler protection to all areas including exterior eaves, soffits, and canopies.
