Box 47775 • g Olympia,ia, Washington 98504-7775 • (360) 407-6300 Y December 31, 1996 Mr. Allan Borden Mason County Department of Community Development PO Box 578 Shelton, WA 98584 Dear Mr. Borden: Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the mitigated determination of nonsignificance to reduce a curve in the road two miles north of SR-300, and replace an undersized road culvert with an aluminum culvert that will include 500 cubic yards of fill (Sand Hill Road Project#2/File No. SEP96-0295). We reviewed the environmental checklist and have the following comments: Any work in or adjacent to waterways that will adversely affect water quality must receive specific prior authorization from the Department of Ecology pursuant to WAC 173-201A-110. A short-term water quality standards modification may be issued if the proponent agrees to a number of specific construction practices and techniques designed to minimize water quality impacts. The construction schedule will be tied to the schedule on the Hydraulic Project Approval (HPA). If you have any questions, please call Ms. Jeannette Barreca with Ecology's Water Quality Program at(360) 407-6556. Sincerely, arles Ll,'.a .
