Verterans Assistance Fund and Veteran Screening Comittee t RESOLUTION NO. 80-87 A RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE MASON COUNTY VETERAN'S ASSISTANCE FUND AND VETERAN SCREENING COMMITTEE. WHEREAS, Mason County has established a levy per R.C.W. 73.08.080 for the purpose of creating the veteran's relief fund for the relief of honorably discharged veterans, WHEREAS, the Washington State Legislature has changed the name of the fund created by RCW 73.08.080 and Mason County desires to conform to the change in state law, WHEREAS, Resolution #140-85 established a Veteran's Relief Screening Committee to set policy and screen applicants for the veteran' s relief fund, WHEREAS, on January 28, 1986 the Board of Mason County Commissioners set the limit of cash award from the Mason County Veteran's Relief Fund to eligible veterans at two hundred fifty ($250) dollars, and WHEREAS, the Veterans Screening Committee has requested an increase in the amount of award because of inflation and cost of living increases, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Mason County Commissioners that, 1. The name of the Veterans Relief Fund is hereby changed to the Veteran' s Assistance Fund. 2. Resolution #140-85 shall be amended to establish a Veteran Screening Committee consisting of a service officer as recommended by the Commander or Adjutant of each Post/Camp and/or Chapter from the following Mason County veteran organizations: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5372 Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7590 Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1694 American Legion Post 31 3. An additional member of the Veteran's Assistance Screening Committee shall be one member-at-large who shall represent all veterans of Mason County and shall serve as an advisor to the Veteran's Assistance Screening Committee and a liaison between the Screening Committee and the Board of County Commissioners. 4. Members of the Mason County Veterans Screening Committee shall be appointed annually by the Board of Mason County Commissioners. 5. The Veteran Assistance Funds may be disbursed in amounts not to exceed three hundred fifty ($350) dollars per applicant per calendar year. 6. Approval of the three hundred fifty ($350) dollar assistance shall be granted only for the following reasons® a. Payment of Rent b. Payment of Utilities (including phone) c. Food (not to include tobacco and alcoholic beverages) . 7. If the Veterans' Screening Committee determines an applicant is in need of assistance due to other emergent and/or exigent conditions or unusual circumstances, the Committee may request in writing to the Board of Mason County Commissioners, for consideration of approval of an amount not to exceed one hundred fifty ($150) dollars per applicant in any one calendar year. 8. RCW 41.04.005 Definition of Veteran's Affairs and RCW Title 73 Veterans and Veteran's Affairs shall govern the procedures for assistance to eligible for indigent and suffering veterans and/or their families and eligibility and requirements.
