To whom it may concern:
On 12/23/2004 a building permit was issued for the site at 21 Old Belfair hwy for the U.S.A. Blackbelt
Academy. Permit number COM2004-00204, as part of the issuance of the permit, inspections are required
to be performed prior to the occupancy of the building. The purpose of the inspections is to see that the
building does comply with all the adopted codes of Mason County. These would include all Fire and life
safety issues that you are concerned with.
At this time we were not aware the building was being occupied, an inspector will be sent to the site. If the
inspector can determine the building is being occupied without the required inspection the building will be
posted for non- occupancy. The inspector should be out to the site within the next few days.

Message: There is a real fire hazard occurring in your distric. The U.S.A. Blackbelt Academy, 21 Old
Belfair Hwy. Is in a 3400 Sq. ft. building, that they are renovating with no permits. I am very concerned that
with an excess of 70 children taking lessons in that establishment that there is no fire sprinkler system in
the building.
I know that when a major remodel occurs the building must be brought up to present codes.
They have recently also installed an electrical space heater in the ceiling area. Without a permit or an
electrician. I am not sure of the fire protection codes, but I do know that there is only one means of egress
from the workout area without opening a large locked door at the front. Which no child could get unlocked,
let alone get it opened. As a parent of one of the students, I have some real concerns as to the safety of
my child. Your immediate attention to this situation may save lives.
