RE: Jack Nicklaus Tree Removal Proposal [23800 NE State Route 3, Belfair]
Dear Mr. Byrnes:
I have reviewed the proposed work to remove several (15 to 20) large trees that are hazardous
to nearby auto display areas and buildings and must be fallen adjacent to a type 3 stream. This
work will be done within the vegetation buffer to the stream and the trees will be removed
from the property. This work would need a Hydraulic Project Approval to accomplish the
proposed removal of these trees in the area of the stream.
For the reasons of needed clearing of the trees and minimal impacts to the stream and
vegetation buffer by the needed equipment, the proposed work would be exempt from State
Environmental Policy Act review and no SEPA checklist is needed for the project as proposed.
Since the proposal involves work to selectively remove the trees in the stream buffer that pose
a danger to the adjacent auto sales business, the planned work would be exempt from the
requirement of a Mason Environmental permit prior to the needed cleanup. The work could
proceed if a condition on the HPA stated that low vegetation is replanted within the stream
buffer in order to provide shade and litter along the stream.
