Box 47775 • Olympia, Washington 98504-7775 • (360) 407-6300 A/gsOH Co ? 1997 January 30, 1997 .pNN/pG A&P7 Mr. Allan Borden Mason County Department of Community Development PO Box 578 Shelton,WA 98584 Dear Mr. Borden: Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the mitigated determination of nonsignificance for the construction of a single-story, 5,832 square foot commercial office building to house possibly four businesses and will include 54 to 56 parking spaces, an on-site sewage system and bioswale and detention pond stormwater treatment(File No. SEP97- 0015), located at Northeast 71 Clifton Lane in Belfair as proposed by Ivan Davies. We reviewed the environmental checklist and have the following comments: Water Quality: The office building should be required to hook up to sewer when it becomes available. After completion of this project, stormwater runoff will likely contain increased levels of grease, oils, sediment, and other debris. Appropriate source controls, such as good housekeeping, should be used to prevent these substances from entering stormwater. Treatment devices should also be used to further reduce polluted runoff. On-site septic tank and drainfield systems are designed to treat and dispose of domestic wastewater or its equivalent only. Commercial and industrial operations discharging wastes other than domestic wastewater to on-site systems may result in ground water contamination and could cause the facility owner or operator to incur severe liabilities. Water Resources: The proponent is responsible for inspecting the site to determine the location of all existing wells. Any unused wells must be properly abandoned and abandonment reports submitted to Ecology as described in WAC 173-160-415. This includes resource protection wells and any dewatering wells installed during the construction phase of the project. If you have any questions regarding the Water Quality comments, please call Ms. Jeannette Barreca at(360) 407-6556. With questions regarding the Water Resources comments, please call Ms. Vicki Cline at(360)407-0278.
