I just spoke to someone from L & I, he said he is not aware of any special certification for playground
equipment, all that would be required is that a licensed bonded contractor do the project. I don't
know the reason for the condition on the older permit that I checked but it doesn't matter. I gave the
application to Genie to process, she will need a bid amount for the project, it needs to include labor
cost even if some is volunteer labor because labor has value whether it's being paid for or not.
Thanks Rich

Rich & Genie,
What is the status of this permit? We have sent emails and left messages, yet we haven't heard one
word from anyone and we are scheduled to begin construction this weekend. This is a community
project, and we have 20+ volunteers scheduled to come and work. It seems to me that this shouldn't
have taken anywhere near this long for such a simple permit. It's a piece of playground equipment, not
the Empire State Building.
I am coming to Shelton today, and would like to pick this permit up today. If it isn't ready, we will move
forward with the construction anyway, and let the chips fall where they may.
See you this afternoon.

No, I was hoping you already had a person who was doing the install, the condition I found states a
qualified installer but no criteria as to exactly what that means. I will see if I can find anything but I will
give the application to Genie to process when she has time and the installer question can be addressed
later if that works for you. I've emailed L&I to see if they have any information on the certification.
Thanks Rich

Our maintenance person, who is a licensed carpenter, will be doing a big part of it and overseeing a
crew of volunteers.
Other than that, I'm not sure where I'd find a "qualified playground equipment installer." Any advice?

I've checked previous permit for playground equipment and it appears we can use the manufacturers
installation instructions and would only need engineering if those were not available, the one thing
that has been required in the past is that the equipment must be installed by a qualified playground
equipment installer, do you know who will be doing the installation?

Here is the application and drawings for the big toy we are installing at the Port's playground. It
replaces a previous one that had deteriorated to the point of no longer being safe.
