The BJSS GROUP C a ARCHITECTS & PLANNERS, AIA --- AUG 141yg2 GENERAL SERVICEF August 10, 1992 Mr. Dana Herron Mason County Building Department 426 W. Cedar Shelton, WA 98584 RE: New Prince of Peace Catholic Church Project File # 920211/B.6.a Dear Mr. Herron: In response to your letter to BJSS dated August 5, 1992, we would like to request your reconsideration regarding the classification of the Lower Floor Classroom #03 as an E-2 occupancy. Upon reviewing the UBC definition in Table No. 5-A and Chapter 8, Section 801, and the Owner's intended use of the subject room, it does not meet the E-2 classification definition. Per the Owner's programmed use, this room would be occupied up to two hours maximum each Sunday and one hour on one other day each week for rcligicu >;ucatio ., ro a to,ai of Three flours per week. This ievei of use is considerably less than the Code-defined "12 hours per week or four hours in any one day". We would propose t the occupancy classification for this room would more appropriately be B-2 or A-3. As an assembly area of less-concentrated use, its occupant load factor would be (27) maximum. Per Table No. 5-13, no occupancy separation would be required. Again, the "educational" use of the subject room consists of just one to two hours on Sundays and one hour one other day per week. Given that this level of use does not fall under the "E" classification, we request that a one hour occupancy separation not be required.
