BOARD OF MASON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS' BUDGET MEETING MINUTES
November 13,2012
Commissioner Ring Erickson convened a meeting at 1:30 p.m.with Auditor Karen Herr,Theresia Ehrich,
Chief Finance Manager;Frank Pinter,MCSO Finance Manager and Diane Zoren,Assistant to
Commissioners to explore options for 2013 budget reductions. Commissioner Steve Bloomfield also
attended. The meeting was held in the Conference Room because the Commission Chambers was
unavailable due to the Hearing Examiner's schedule.
Crmnr. Ring Erickson reviewed the 2013 budget requests and noted which departments have increases.
She does not believe an across-the-board reduction is the best way to balance the budget. If a department
has submitted a budget that already has reductions she does not believe it is fair to ask for further
reductions.
Cmmr. Ring Erickson asked Frank Pinter if the Sheriffs office could absorb the increases they submitted
for the MACECOM,nursing contract and courtroom security overtime. Mr. Pinter agreed these amounts
could be absorbed in their budget.
Cmmr. Ring Erickson then discussed changing the travel policy so per diem is not allowed and suggested
that any amounts budgeted for travel be eliminated from the 2013 budgets.
The Auditor's office will submit a change to the travel policy.
After discussing all possible reductions, the following proposal will be submitted for the Board's
consideration at the November 15 budget workshop:
$35,000 Sheriffs Office reduction to the Jail nursing contract budget line
$19,612 Sheriffs Office reduction to the 911 Dispatch budget line
$1 1,000 Sheriffs Office/Courtroom Security reduction to overtime budget lines
$30,238 Commissioner budget reduction
$ 9,600 WACO Dues eliminated
$10,000 WSAC&NACO Dues eliminated
$10,000 reduction in the Clerk's budget
$5,000 reduction in the Human Resources&Probation Services budget
All departments will reduce their budgets by any amount they have budgeted for travel.
All Equipment Rental&Revolving(ER&R)charges for telephone, computer and vehicles will be
eliminated.
Cmmr. Ring Erickson noted this proposal will be considered as an alternative to across-the-board budget
reductions which was proposed at this morning's workshop.
The meeting adjourned at 3:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Diane Zoren, Assistant to the Commissioners
